Mobile Technology in Teacher Education (MiTE)

Join us in Sydney, Australia for the 5th International MiTE conference!

The 5th International MiTE Conference will be hosted by The University of Technology Sydney on 18 – 19 January 2019.

This is the first time the conference is being held in the southern hemisphere and will provide a wonderful opportunity for teachers, researchers and industry to celebrate the possibilities and explore the challenges of integrating innovative mobile technologies into learning institutions and into the broader field of education to promote best practice by educators and students.

The focus of the conference is on mobile devices including; phones, tablets, laptops, VR/AR, cameras, go pros, robotics and drones. The conference will also investigate how technologies can assist student mobility by exploring video conferencing and assistive technologies.

The conference will involve; poster sessions, research-based sessions, practitioner-based sessions, plenary presentations and workshops. You will able be able to meet international like-minded practitioners and change agents to develop lasting relationships and shape the future of education. There will also be opportunities to present and showcase what is being done at your school or organisation.

Both days of #MiTE2019 are NESA accredited for 5 hours each at a highly accomplished level.

Sue Bennett

Prof. Sue Bennett

Sue Bennett’s area of expertise is in information and communication technologies in education. Her research investigates how people engage with technology in their everyday lives and in educational settings. Sue has extensive experience in the design, development and evaluation of multimedia and on-line instructional materials.

Jonathan Nalder

Jonathan Nalder

Jonathan Nalder has 18 years’ experience helping light the spark that schools, universities & businesses can use to grow and learn together. From a Drama educator, to learning difficulties teacher, to technology trainer; he has honed the craft of helping learners transition to digital tools.

Punya Mishra

Dr. Punya Mishra

Punya Mishra is Associate Dean of Scholarship & Innovation and Professor in the Division of Educational Leadership & Innovation in the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College at Arizona State University.  He also has an affiliate faculty position in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts.

The 5th International MiTE Conference will be hosted by The University of Technology Sydney on 18 – 19 January 2019.

2019 MiTE Conference program

The conference will start at 9:00 am and Friday 18 January and will conclude at 5:00 pm on Saturday the 19 January.

  • Friday: An academic focused day featuring two keynotes and researcher presentations which will be followed by a gala dinner.
  • Saturday: A practitioner day featuring a keynote speaker and over 20 hands-on workshops from international experts.

Call for abstracts

The 5th International Conference on Mobile Technology in Teacher Education (MiTE) calls for abstracts and papers related to the central theme of mobile use in education.

Conference organisers

Damian Maher

Dr. Damian Maher

Damian Maher is a senior lecturer at the School of Education in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). Damian’s research interests are located mainly around a STEM focus in primary, secondary and tertiary settings. He has published on the use of mobile technologies tosupport teaching and learning.

Annie Agnew

Annie Agnew

Annie Agnew taught across K‐12 in the US and Australia before moving to positions of leadership, including; education technology director, head of literacy, numeracy and diverse learning and relieving principal. She now teaches in the teacher education programs at UTS and is a doctoral candidate researching the use of mobile technology by tweens.

Sean Ogradaigh

Seán Ó Grádaigh

Seán Ó Grádaigh has a background in second-level teaching and educational technologies and is employed as a Lecturer in Education in the School of Education, National University of Ireland, Galway. He is an Apple Distinguished Educator and provides Apple Professional Development training to educational institutions nationwide and across Europe.
